The battery charger fitted to the Maritimo C47 is a combined charger/inverter
using the latest switchmode technology (see Figure 7.11). Control is from the
device itself or the inverter panel located in the locker at the companionway
(see Figure 7.12).

In the battery-charging mode it can supply approximately 40 amps at
24 volts DC, and this power is also available to supply the DC consumer
circuits on the boat. If the demand exceeds this supply figure, then the
additional energy will come from the battery banks—exactly which bank
depends on the switching configuration of the Battery control panel. For
this reason it is important not to have all the banks connected together as
it is possible to completely discharge all two banks even though the boat is
connected to a 16 amp 240 volt shore supply, or even if the generator has
been running. Although this would be a highly unlikely event, it is possible
and the correct switching at the Battery control panel will prevent this
from occurring.

If the device is being used to supply 240 volt power to the outlets connected
to it, be aware that it can quickly deplete the house bank if called upon to
supply high levels of energy, e.g. boiling water, hair dryers, etc. The unit is
capable of supplying 1.2 kilowatts from the batteries. We urge you to read
the supplied instruction manual as this will enable you to use all the features
of this machine. The unit is located in the engine room on the starboard side
near the forward bulkhead.

The AC power generated from this device is a potential killer. Under no
circumstances should anyone other than qualified electrical persons work
on the wiring systems of this boat, and they should consult with the factory
before commencing any modifications. Disconnect all shore power leads and
remove the battery connections to the inverter. All work should be noted in
this manual and circuit drawings annotated accordingly. The electrical system
should be inspected annually.
