5.1
INTRODUCTION
The fuel system on the Maritimo C47 consists of two fuel tanks, two fuel
filter/water separators and the attendant delivery pipes and valves. A further
subsystem is the addition of a fuel filter/water separator, valves and pipes to
supply the electric generator. The generator uses the same fuel as the main
engines and draws its fuel from the same tank as the engines.
Fuel tanks are located midships and have a total capacity of 1800 litres
(396 Imperial gallons or 476 US gallons).
For an overview of the fuel plumbing system see Figure 5.1.
5.2
FUEL
The fuel used is diesel and should conform to US specification ATSM D975
for maximum engine life. Operating with fuels that do not meet these
specifications can cause starting difficulties, poor combustion, fuel injector
deposits, deposits in the combustion chambers of the engines, and reduced
service life of both the engines and fuel system as a whole.
Do not use fuel containing ethanol as this may damage fuel
tanks, fuel lines and non-metallic engine components.
5.3
CONTAMINATION IN FUEL
Biological contamination can occur when there is aged fuel in the tank.
There are a number of treatment systems available, but it is important
they are approved by the engine manufacturer.
