Using Manual Mode
1. Turn the Focus Mode Selector Lever to
"M" (Manual Focus Mode).
2. Turn the lens Focusing Ring to focus your
subject.
3. Depress the Shutter Release Button halfway
to meter the subject.
4. Turn the Exposure Setting Dial to "M" (Manual
Mode).
5. Turn either the Front or the Rear Dials to adjust
the shutter speed and aperture based on the metered
values.
6. Turn the Mirror-up Lever to the "M.UP" position to
raise the mirror.
7. Fully depress the Shutter Release Button to take
the photograph.
Depth-of-Field
Depth-of-Field (DOF) is defined as the zone of sharpness in front and behind the plane
of focus.
DOF depends on the camera to subject distance, the focal length of the lens, the aperture
setting, and the distance the lens is focused at.
In addition to the visual observation of the DOF using the Depth-of-Field Preview Button,
the DOF can be determined by using the DOF scale on the lens. The f/stop numbers
are engraved on both the left- and right-hand side of the white Index Mark in the center
of the DOF Scale. To determine the DOF, read the distances that appear above the selected
f/stop on the DOF Scale. For example, in the illustration shown below, the selected aperture
is f/22 and the DOF is about 3.9 ft. to 6.2 ft.
When the aperture is large,
