Using the Focus Lock Function
If the subject you want to focus on is not in the Focus Frame
.
the camera will focus on the background at the center of the
frame. In such cases, use the Focus Lock Mechanism to lock
the focus before releasing the shutter.
1. Set the Focus Mode Selector Lever to "S".
AF Supplemental Infrared Light
When the subject is dark, or the contrast is low,
and the camera is unable to auto focus, a red
lamp may light on the front of the camera when
the Shutter Release Button is pressed down half-
way. This supplemental light assists the camera's
auto focus function.
The AF Supplemental Infrared Light only illuminates when the focus mode is set to "S"
(single auto focus).
The light cannot reach distant subjects.
When using a bellows lens hood with a diameter greater than the lens, focus before
installing the hood.
The camera may be set to disable the AF Supplemental Infrared Light.
The range is about 9m (29.5 ft.) with the 80mm f/2.8 lens.
