Chapter 15: The 3D Cast Member, 3D Text, and 3D Behaviors
Creating 3D text
To create 3D text, you first create 2D text, and then you convert the text to 3D.
Note:
Alternatively, you can use the
extrude3d()
method of a 3D cast member to create an extruded-
text model resource in the cast member.
To create 3D text:

Select Window > Text to open the text editor.

Select the desired font, size, style, and alignment.
Most standard fonts work well with 3D text. You might need to experiment to get
specific results.

Enter the text. (You can edit the text after you’ve entered it.)

Drag the text cast member onto the Stage.
You can either drag the cast member from the Cast window or drag the Drag Cast Member
button next to the Name text box in the Text window.

Click the Property Inspector button in the Director toolbar.

Click the Text tab in the Property inspector.

Select #mode3d Mode from the Display pop-up menu.
The text on the screen changes to 3D. You can now work with it, as discussed in the
next section.
Modifying 3D text
After your 2D text has been changed to 3D, you can modify it.
To modify the 3D text:

Click the Property inspector’s 3D Extruder tab.

Set the camera position and rotation.
As with the standard 3D Property inspector tab, you control camera position and rotation with
the values that you enter in the text boxes at the top of the pane. The default camera position
represents a vantage point looking up through the middle of the scene.
Note:
You might prefer to define these settings using the Shockwave 3D window instead of the
Property inspector.
