Removing the system board

To remove the system board, complete the following steps:
1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii, and “Installation
guidelines” on page 57.
2. Turn off the server, and disconnect all power cords and external cables; then,
remove the server cover (see “Removing the cover” on page 60).
3. Remove the riser-card assembly with adapters, and place them on a
static-protective surface for reinstallation (see “Removing the riser-card
assembly” on page 88).
4. Remove the SAS/SATA controller if one is installed (see “Removing the
SAS/SATA controller (hot-swap models)” on page 95) and place it on a
static-protective surface for reinstallation.
5. Remove all DIMMs, and place them on a static-protective surface for
reinstallation (see “Removing a memory module (DIMM)” on page 74).
6. Disconnect all cables from the system board.
7. Remove the air baffle (see “Removing the air baffle” on page 78).
8. Remove the microprocessor heat-exchanger assembly and microprocessor;
then, place them on a static-protective surface for reinstallation (see
“Removing the microprocessor” on page 99).
9. Note the orientation of the microprocessor retention module.
