Introduction

The information in this manual covers the installation and  operation of the  Kollector Elite  RAID Storage
System. This system should only  be installed by a qualified technician using common hand tools and
approved materials in accordance with national, state and local wiring codes.

The Kollector Elite  RAID Storage System is an intelligent and rugged external video archive unit. It is a state-
of-the-art disk array with an expandable capacity of up to eight individual disk drives in an attractive industrial
steel case.  The Storage System  is sold in  3 prepackaged configurations with  a  choice  of  3  video  storage
sizes; 0.5, 0.75 and 1 TB.  All ve rsions use the same  hardware platform  using an array controller and SCSI
interface.  For information on  the  Kollector Elite  Digital Video Recorder, refer to Installation & Operation /
Software manuals XX112.

The Storage System  complies with  CE standards and  meets requirements for an FCC Class A computing
device.

Vicon strongly recommends the use of line conditioners, voltage regulators and uninterruptible power supply
(UPS) systems in the electrical power service.

How to Use this Manual

This manual was designed to provide the best overall instructions for the installation and operation of the
Kollector Elite RAID Storage System. The graphics and terminology used in this manual have been carefully
selected to enable a clear and distinct understanding of the Storage System and its configuration. This
manual has been formatted to present distinct methods of configuration. For initial setup and test, this unit has
been preconfigured at Vicon and requires a minimum understanding of computer systems. However, an
advanced understanding of computer systems will be required to change or modify the preconfigured
condition of the Storage System and is not recommended.

Architectural Description

The Storage System consists of up to eight (KOL-RAID3-160) disk drive bays, an enclosure with back plane, and the
array controller. Multiple fans provide redundancy to ensure continued usage during component failure. The array
controller is hardware based and controls all array functions transparently to the host system. It appears to the system as
a standard SCSI drive, and therefore does not require any special software drivers.

Warning

The electronic components within the UltraTrak disk
array are sensitive to damage from ESD (Electro-Static
Discharge). Appropriate precautions should be
observed at all times when handling the array or its
subassemblies.
