Getting Started
Warning
To prevent serious damage to the storage subsystem, be sure that the
voltage-select switch on the back of the power supply is set to your local
voltage (see Figure 9).
Getting started with the Storage System consists of the following steps:
1. Unpack the storage subsystem (this page).
2. Mount RM8000 in a rack.
3. Install Hard Drives.
4. Connect the Null Modem Cable.
5. Connect the SCSI Cables.
6. Connect the Power Cable.
7. Enter the Password.
8. Assigning a SCSI ID.
9. Configuring.
10. Partition and Format the Array.
Unpacking and Inspection
Open the box and carefully remove the unit and accessories from the box. Be sure to remove the packing foam from
within the door. The accessories include the following items:

External LVD SCSI cable

Quick Start Guide

Power cord
•
Two drive-carrier keys
•
Screw sets for hard drives
•
Null Modem Cable
•
SCSI Terminator
(included when there is no
internal SCSI termination)

Caution
Packing foam was placed inside the front panel door to prevent damage
during shipping. Remove this packing foam and retain it for future use.
Note
The Promise Array Management (PAM) utility provides monitoring and
maintenance of your RAID through a graphic user interface (GUI) on
your PC. Install PAM from the provided CD.
All Vicon equipment is tested and inspected before leaving the factory. It is the carrier’s responsibility to
provide suitable delivery.
Inspect the cartons upon delivery and, if damage is present, make detailed notes on the carrier’s bill. Then,
obtain the carrier agent’s signature and file a damage claim as soon as possible.
Open the cartons and inspect the equipment for damage. Save the cartons and packing material. If damage is
present, contact the carrier and file a damage claim immediately. If the equipment must be returned for repair,
follow the instructions in the Shipping Information Section of this manual.
