7.4.18 Setting up the ATA (Automatic Tracking Aid)
NOTE:
The ATA UNIT (MRE-310) is needed for ATA operation.
The ATA is an abbreviation of Automatic Tracking Aid and its function is such that it detects and tracks
the target based on its positional changes in the past, obtained from measuring its distance and bearing,
and estimates the target movement.
By calculating the target’s movement relative to own ship, its vector (estimated course and speed) is
displayed. Further more, the closest point of approach (CPA) and the time taken to reach the CPA
(TCPA) is calculated. This CPA is compared to a previously setup “distance to CPA”, and the TCPA is
compared to a previously setup “time taken to reach CPA”. A warning alarm sounds when both the CPA
and the TCPA become less than the preset values.
Press any key to stop the alarm.
The target bearing is obtained from the following 2 types of information.
(1) Target bearing relative to own ship’s heading
(2) Own ship’s heading information
The accuracy of own ship’s heading information will have an effect on the tracking performance. In the
case where the accuracy of the compass is poor, particularly when own ship is yawing, changing
course or the compass needle is shifting etc, the target tracking may not be able to continue. However
this does not mean the ATA is at fault.
The ATA display symbols are shown below.
:
Acquired target
:
Target whose data is being displayed
:
Tracked target
:
Dangerous target
NOTE: An affixed number “3” is the target number, as an example.
When attempting to operate the ATA, first set ATA in ”ATA PRESET” of the Radar MENU to “ON”
and then carry out the settings described below.
「
CPA SET
」
Set up the desired distance for the closest point of approach.
「
TCPA SET
」
Set up the desired time taken to reach the closest point of approach.
「
VECT SET
」
Set up the vector time.
If [6min] is set, a vector whose end will be reached in 6 minutes is calculated
and displayed.
「
VECT MODE
」
In the vector display mode, select either relative motion (REL) or true motion
(TRUE).
In relative motion (REL), target motion is displayed relative to own ship.
In true motion (TRUE), targets are displayed in their real motion.
Display the soft menu (RADAR/PAGE1(2)/R FUNC/ATA) to perform the ATA operation.
