Operating the PDA Detector 2800
15
Before taking a measurement cell filled with solvent into operation,
please make certain that the eluent used is miscible with the one
used previously. Otherwise, purge the flow cell with a medium
which is miscible with both of the eluents.
Even though the Smartline PDA Detector 2800 is very resistant to
many kinds of commonly used eluents, you should take care that no
eluent or water come in contact with the instrument’s surface or
with the inside of the instrument. Chlorinated hydrocarbons could
destroy the varnish and some others (e.g. THF) could loosen the
keypad, for example.
Switching on the Detector
Connect the detector to the power supply cable and switch on the instru-
ment. The main power switch is on the rear panel.
After switching ON, the Power and Error LEDs will light.
Choose Ethernet interface and enter the detector’s IP address in the
EuroChrom
®
or ChromGate
®
detector setup.
If ChromGate
®
software is used, the detector’s lamp(s) will be switched
on when a method is opened (Error LED goes off, busy LED is on, UV
LED is on after about 30 seconds, VIS LED is on if halogen lamp is
installed).
If
EuroChrom
®
software is used, the detector’s lamp/s will be switched
on after clicking on ‘Lamp Ctrl’ or ‘Info’ and ‘Reset’ in the detector’s
hardware setup (Error LED will also go off).
Whenever powering up, the instrument includes initialization and check of
the electronics. In addition, the D
2
lamp is heated to it’s working
temperature for about 20 seconds before it is switched on.
After a period of about 10 to 30 minutes the instrument reaches a
constant working temperature. The baseline is now stabilized and the
PDA detector is ready to acquire data.
Prior to the first measurement wait for about 15 minutes for the
instrument to warm up while the HPLC pump is running (with flow).
In case of especially sensitive measurements, prolonging this warm
up period may be necessary.
