Some portions of commands are enclosed in square brackets
(
[] ). The brackets indicate that this portion of the command
is optional. Most optional portions of the command are not
shown in the command description. For the full command
showing all the options, refer to
Table 3- 1 .
A colon (
:
) separates a command keyword from a
lower- level keyword. You must insert a blank space to
separate a parameter from a command keyword. If a
command requires more than one parameter, you must
separate adjacent parameters using a comma as shown
below:
SOURce:CURRent:TRIGgered

APPLy 3.5,1.5
Command separators
A colon (
:
) is used to separate a command keyword from a
lower- level keyword as shown below:
SOURce:CURRent:TRIGgered
A semicolon (
;
) is used to separate two commands within
the same subsystem, and can also minimize typing. For
example, sending the following command string,
SOUR:VOLT MIN;CURR MAX
is the same as sending the following two commands:
SOUR:VOLT MIN

SOUR:CURR MAX
Use a colon and a semicolon to link commands from
different subsystems. For example, in the following command
string, an error is generated if you do not use the colon and
semicolon:
DISP:TEXT:CLE;:SOUR:CURR MIN
