4.5. Spring-Loaded Encoder
The spring-loaded encoder maintains contact with the scan surface.
4.5.1. Longitudinal Setup
To attach the encoder to the wheel block with handle during long seam
scanning, follow these steps:
1. Loosen the dovetail jaw and mount to the wheel block with handle
(Fig. 36)

2. Tighten the encoder’s knob
(Fig. 37)
.
3. Spring tension maintains constant encoder contact with the scan surface
(Fig. 38)

4.5.2. Circumferential Setup
To attach the encoder to the frame bar during circumferential scanning, follow
these steps:
1. Loosen the encoder’s dovetail jaw and mount to the dual pivot frame bar
(Fig. 39)

2. Tighten the encoder’s knob
(Fig. 40)
.
3. Spring tension maintains constant encoder contact with the scan surface
