IQ Power™ BPS
5201197 Rev. D
J. Direct connection to a personal computer
(if used). In cases where direct
connection to a computer was made (with Ion Systems cable 33-8100iP), this cable
can be replaced with retrofit converter cable, P.N. 5051697.
Figure 15. RS-485 Converter Cable
This cable plugs into PS COMM 1 on the IQ Power™ BPS and into the USB port
on the personal computer. The cable includes an RS-485 converter and allows
communication between the IQ Power™ BPS and PC.
This cable provides digital communication to support 8100 Client software and
VCP32 software.
K. Connect the Web Speed Encoder
(if used). A web speed encoder is available for
use with software or monitoring devices that require web speed information. The
web speed encoder uses a modular cable to connect to the IQ Power system. A 6.10
meter [20 foot] cable is available for installation.
The web speed encoder connects to the “PS COMM 2” connector on the power
supply. If it is necessary to connect a web speed encoder to a remote display module,
the remote display module has a dedicated connector labeled “Web Speed Encoder”.
The modular cable should not be run parallel with the static bar high voltage cable.
Route the modular cable clear of moving machine parts and protect it from abrasion.
Secure using nylon wire ties (not supplied). Do not over tighten wire tie.
If there is an excess of modular cable, do not coil it in the vicinity of the static bar
high voltage cable. If possible, cut modular cable to length and re-terminate using an
RJ-45 connector installed with the same “polarization” as connector removed (note
orientation of rib / wire color to modular connector).
