Before You Begin

Disconnect t he com put er from it s power source and from any t elecom m unicat ions
links, net works, or m odem s befor e perform ing any of t he procedur es described in t his
chapt er . Failur e t o disconnect pow er, t elecom m unicat ions links, net w orks, or m odem s
befor e y ou open t he com put er or perform any procedur es can result in per sonal inj ury
or equipm ent dam age. Som e cir cuit ry on t he board can cont inue t o operat e ev en
t hough t he fr ont panel power but t on is off.
Follow t hese guidelines befor e y ou begin inst alling t he Deskt op Board:
•
Alw ays follow t he st eps in each procedur e in t he corr ect order.
•
Set up a log t o r ecord infor m at ion about your com put er, such as m odel, serial
num bers, inst alled opt ions, and configurat ion inform at ion.
•
Elect r ost at ic discharge ( ESD) can dam age com ponent s. Per form t he pr ocedur es
described in t his chapt er only at an ESD w or kst at ion using an ant ist at ic w rist st rap
and a conduct ive foam pad. I f such a st at ion is not available, you can provide
som e ESD prot ect ion by w earing an ant ist at ic w rist st rap and at t aching it t o a
m et al part of t he com put er chassis.
