CODE RETRIEVAL PROCEDURES - KOER TEST

When prompted, turn off all vehicle
accessories, turn ignition key OFF and
wait for the on screen prompt. If you
wish to exit the KOER test at this time,
press the M button.

When instructed by the message on the
Diagnostic Tool's display, start the engine
and press the ENTER
button to con-
tinue. A "One moment please KOER test
is in progress..." message shows tempo-
rarily on the Diagnostic Tool's LCD display.

The Diagnostic Tool will retrieve the
Cylinder Identification (ID) Code. The
Cylinder ID Code identifies the number
of cylinders for the vehicle under test.
If the Diagnostic Tool cannot retrieve
the Cylinder ID Code, an advisory
message displays. Press the M
button to exit and repeat the Key On
Engine Off (KOEO) test (page 71)
until DTC 11 or 111 displays.

Perform the following procedures when
prompted by the message on the
Diagnostic Tool's display.
Turn the steering wheel 1/2 turn to
right, hold for four seconds and
release.
Press the brake pedal to the floor
and then release it.
Cycle the Overdrive Switch (if equipped).
Quickly press the accelerator pedal
to the floor and then release it.

After the above procedures are performed
a "One moment please KOER test is in
progress..." message shows temporarily
on the Diagnostic Tool's LCD display,
followed by a "Retrieving codes" message.
Most Ford EEC-IV vehicle com-
puters up to 1991 use a two-digit
code system. From 1991 to 1995
most use a three-digit code system.
If the Diagnostic Tool fails to link to
the vehicle’s computer, a “Vehicle is
not responding” message shows on
the Diagnostic Tool’s LCD display.
