Protege Ethernet 2 Reader Expander
Installation Manual | June 2017
Controller Connection
The controller connection defines how the reader expander finds the Protege System Controller on the network.
This can be done either dynamically where the reader expander will find an available controller to connect to or
statically. When connecting statically the Controller IP Address must be set (see below).
CTRL Connect
Static
Use the [1] and [3] keys to scroll the connection selection and press [ENTER] to select the connection displayed.
i
Do not use a dynamic controller connection when there is more than one controller on the network the
reader expander is being connected to. You cannot guarantee which controller the reader expander
will connect to.
DHCP Configuration
The Reader Expander can use DHCP to obtain an IP address. To use this feature select
Enabled
.
DHCP Usage
Disabled
Use the [1] and [3] keys to scroll the connection selection and press [ENTER] to select the connection displayed.
Network UDP Port
The Network UDP port defines the port the Reader Expander uses to connect to the Protege System Controller.
This must be set the same as Protege System Controller.
Network UDP
port: 09450
Enter a network UDP port (00000 - 65535).
Module IP Address
The reader expander has a built in TCP/IP Ethernet Device and it must be programmed with a valid TCP/IP
Address to allow it to connect to the system controller. By default the IP address is set to 192.168.1.2.
Programming an IP address requires knowledge of the network and subnet that the system controller will be
connected to. ALWAYS consult the network or system administrator before programming these values.
IP Address
192.168.001.003
To modify the IP address use the decimal entry from (000 to 255), use the keypad as explained in section
Entering Decimal Numbers in the Protege System Controller Reference Manual and press [ENTER].
i
When the Reader Expander is configured with DHCP enabled an IP address does not have to be
entered. Once a DHCP address has been obtained it will be displayed. An IP address of
000.000.000.000 will be shown while the Reader Expander is trying to find a DHCP server.
