Configuring Your Macintosh for Sharing Files
This section gives instructions on setting up a networked Macintosh to share
the
Customer CD-ROM with other networked Macintoshes and with
networked PCs. You can also skip this section and go directly to the
User’s
Guide for instructions on installing the printer driver end-user software on
your Macintosh.
A Macintosh computer on your Ethernet network needs no special
configuration to communicate with the printer as long as the printer is
enabled for AppleTalk. For instructions on configuring the printer so that it is
enabled for AppleTalk, see “Configuring the IBM Network Color Printer” on
page 6–1.
Sharing the
Customer CD-ROM from a Macintosh
Follow these steps to set up the
Customer CD-ROM to be shared:
1. Insert the
Customer CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of the networked
Macintosh.
2. Click and hold the mouse pointer on the Apple menu, and slide the pointer
down to select Automated Tasks. Release the mouse button.
The contents of the Automated Tasks folder are displayed
3. Click and hold on the icon for the
Customer CD-ROM and drag it onto the
Share a Folder
icon in the Automated Tasks folder. When the Share a
Folder icon is selected, release the mouse button.
The message “Starting File Sharing could take some time, depending on
the size of your disk. Continue?” is displayed.
4. Click on the OK button in the message window. After a brief wait, the
message “Selected disks/folders are now shared” is displayed.
5. Click on the OK button in the message window. File sharing is turned on
and the
Customer CD-ROM is shared.
