Setting up the storage unit to attach to an HP AlphaServer Tru64 UNIX
host system with fibre-channel adapters
The following sections tell you how to set up a storage unit to attach to an HP
AlphaServer Tru64 UNIX host.
Adding or modifying AlphaServer fibre-channel connections
This section provides the reference you need to add or modify AlphaServer
fibre-channel connections.
To add, remove, or modify the AlphaServer connections, use the IBM TotalStorage
DS Storage Manager. When you add a connection, it is necessary to specify the
worldwide port name of the host connection. See “Locating the worldwide port
name (WWPN),” on page 211 for procedures on how to locate the WWPN for each
KGPSA adapter card.
Configuring fibre-channel host adapter ports for the Tru64 UNIX
host system
This section provides the reference you need to configure host adapter ports for
fibre-channel storage unit connectivity to an HP AlphaServer Tru64 UNIX host
system.
To configure the host adapter ports, use the IBM TotalStorage DS Storage Manager
or see the IBM TotalStorage DS6000 Command-Line Interface User’s Guide .
Adding and assigning volumes to the Tru64 UNIX host system
This section provides information you need to add and assign volumes to the Tru64
UNIX host system.
To set up disk groups, create volumes and assign them to the Tru64 connections,
use the IBM TotalStorage DS Storage Manager or see the IBM TotalStorage
DS6000 Command-Line Interface User’s Guide .
Confirming fibre-channel switch connectivity for Tru64 UNIX
This section lists the steps you need to perform to confirm fibre-channel switch
connectivity for Tru64 UNIX.
1. Open a telnet session and log in to the switch as an administrator.
2. Confirm that each host adapter has performed a fabric login to the switch.
3. Type switchshow to confirm that each storage unit host adapter has performed a
fabric login to the switch. Figure 10 on page 33 shows an example of what
displays when you type the switchshow command.
