Since V5R1 of the operating system, you are limited to three sign-on attempts to DST. After three
unsuccessful attempts, the service tools user ID is disabled. The system administrator with
QSECOFR authority needs to reset the ID.
The Use Dedicated Service Tools (DST) display is shown. The system is in the full paging
environment.

Control panel function codes on the Hardware Management Console
Control panel function codes are used to indicate status and function options for a system that is
managed by a Hardware Management Console (HMC).
If you are managing the system with the HMC, use the HMC to perform control panel functions. Servers
without physical panels require the HMC to perform the equivalent control panel functions. The HMC
affects the physical control panel in the following ways:
v
Except for some limited automatic platform override functions, such as automatic power-on restart and
timed power-on functions, the system operating mode value no longer has meaning.
v
The operating system IPL-type value is disabled in functions 01 and 02.
v
Functions 11 - 19 do not display partition system reference codes (SRCs). They continue to display
SRCs from the platform Licensed Internal Code.
v
Functions 21, 22, 34, and 65 - 70 are not selectable on the physical control panel.
The following table lists the control panel functions that you can perform on the HMC.

Displays the currently selected IPL type (and logical key mode on some system types).

Performs a slow boot. This function is available in both normal and manual operating mode.

Performs a lamp test; all displays and indicators are switched on. This function is available in both

Allows you to set SPCN configuration IDs. This function is available only in manual operating
mode when the system is in standby.

Causes a fast power off. This function is available only when the system is in manual operating
mode and the system power is on.

Displays a system reference code (SRC) on the control panel. These functions are available in both
normal and manual operating modes when an SRC is available.
