Problem Possible reason Suggested action
The tape drive does not
operate correctly.
If the tape drive does not turn
on, the power cord might not
be connected to the tape
drive correctly.
Make sure that the power
cord is firmly connected. Try
another power cord if one is
available. If power is present
and all LEDs remain off,
press the power button to
power cycle the tape drive. If
the problem continues,
replace the tape drive. See
“Removing a tape drive” for
more information.
If the tape drive fails the
self-test, there might be a
hardware or firmware failure.
If a cartridge is in the tape
drive, remove it. Turn off the
tape drive and turn it on
again. If the problem
continues, replace the tape
drive. See “Removing a tape
drive” for more information.
Post-installation troubleshooting
The server recognizes devices during startup. If you swap or connect a device while
the server is running, restart the server. Restarting the system resets devices and
often resolves problems. Restart the server every time you add a driver or install
firmware.
CRU list
The tape drive, SATA cable, and screw pack are Tier 1 customer replaceable units
(CRUs). Replacement of Tier 1 CRUs is your responsibility. If IBM installs a Tier 1
CRU at your request, you will be charged for the installation.

If you are instructed to return a component, follow all packaging instructions, and
use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
