Remove
the
device
from
its
package
and
install
it
immediately
without
setting
down
the
device.
If
it
is
necessary
to
set
down
the
device,
put
it
back
into
its
static-protective
package.
Do
not
place
the
device
on
a
metal
surface.

Take
additional
care
when
handling
devices
during
cold
weather.
Heating
reduces
indoor
humidity
and
increases
static
electricity.
Returning
a
device
or
component
If
you
are
instructed
to
return
a
device
or
component,
follow
all
packaging
instructions,
and
use
any
packaging
materials
for
shipping
that
are
supplied
to
you.
Preparing
for
the
installation
To
prepare
for
the
installation,
complete
the
following
steps:
1.
Read
the
safety
information
that
begins
on
page
v
and
“Installation
guidelines”
on
page
3.
2.
Unpack
the
tape
drive
and
store
the
packaging.
You
will
need
the
packaging
if
you
return
the
tape
drive
for
service.
3.
Turn
off
all
attached
devices.
4.
Turn
off
the
server.
5.
Disconnect
all
cables
from
the
server
and
all
attached
devices,
and
then
open
the
server.
For
information
about
opening
the
server,
see
the
documentation
that
came
with
the
server.
Attention:
Tape
drives
are
sensitive
to
static
electricity
discharge.
The
tape
drive
is
wrapped
in
a
static-protective
package
to
prevent
damage.
6.
Before
you
open
the
static-protective
package
that
contains
the
tape
drive,
touch
the
bag
to
an
unpainted
metal
surface
on
the
server
for
at
least
2
seconds.
Remove
the
tape
drive
from
the
static-protective
package.
If
you
must
set
down
the
tape
drive,
place
it
on
the
static-protective
package.
Do
not
touch
any
of
the
exposed
components
of
the
tape
drive.
Instead,
handle
it
carefully
by
the
edges.
Installing
the
tape
drive
If
there
is
insufficient
work
space
to
connect
the
cables
after
you
install
the
tape
drive,
connect
the
cables
first
(see
“Connecting
the
cables”
on
page
5).
To
install
the
tape
drive,
complete
the
following
steps:
1.
Locate
an
available
5.25-inch
bay
to
install
the
tape
drive.
Remove
the
cover
plate
from
the
bay.
Install
the
tape
drive
horizontally
or
vertically,
depending
on
the
orientation
of
the
bay.
