Decorative Sewing

61

Bridging Stitch

The bridging stitch sews two piec es of fab ric or trim
with edg es butt ed to geth er. Use this tech nique to join
strips of lace and/or rib bon and to stitch them to a
ﬁ n ished fab ric edge. The bridg ing stitch is pre ferred
for this type of join ing for a ﬂ at, neat re sult.

Fabric:

Short piece of edging lace and linen fab ric

with one edge turned under or ﬁ nished.

Touch:

Stitch A

Use:

Presser foot B as rec om mend ed.

• Place the pieces to be joined edge to edge in the

center of presser foot B. Then they are perfectly
aligned as you sew.

Sew:

The right zigzag stitch of the bridging stitch will
catch the lace on the right and the left zigzag, the
fabric on the left. The straight stitch sews between
the two pieces of fabric, ribbon or lace.

Optional:
