Chapter 6 • Troubleshooting

problem is in the original computer. If they still do not light
up, contact technical support.

LAN LED is lit

Check the front panel LAN LED. If it is lit, disconnect the
Ethernet cable and follow the appropriate procedure below.

If LAN LED stays lit

If the LAN LED stays lit, power cycle both the remote terminal
and the computer by unplugging both of their power cords from
the power source, waiting 10 seconds, and plugging them back in.

If the LAN LED lights after the remote terminal is powered back
up, call technical support.

If LAN LED goes dark

If the LAN LED goes dark, perform the following steps:

1. Plug the Ethernet cable back into the remote terminal unit

Ethernet port.

2. Check the IP address assigned to the computer.

a. Open a command or terminal window to obtain a system

command prompt. If you are running Windows, click

Start

→

Run

. At the Run dialog box, type

command

in the

Open

field and click

b. If you are using a Windows computer, type

ipconfig /all

at the command prompt. If you are using

Linux, type

ifconfig -a

c. Press

NTER

3. Check the IP address returned for the interface connected to

the remote terminal

If the address is

0.0.0.0

or, in the case

of Windows, if it begins with

169.254

, ensure that the

computer is configured to automatically obtain an IP address
from the remote terminal. If the computer is running
Windows, refer to Appendix A –

Configuring a Windows

computer to support DHCP

for instructions on how to

configure a Windows computer to automatically receive an IP
address from the remote terminal.

4. If the TCP/IP settings are correct, power cycle the computer

to set the IP address correctly.

5. If the ipconfig (or ifconfig) command you entered in Step 2

did not display the IP address information, there is probably
something wrong with the computer NIC. Refer to the
manufacturer’s documentation.
