If you still cannot reach enterprise network resources after
a successful ping test, proceed to

If the ping test fails, contact technical support for
assistance.

Checking enterprise

naming system settings

If you can ping the enterprise DNS (or WINS) server but cannot
use resources on the enterprise network, follow the steps below to
check the DNS (or WINS) settings on your computer. Note that
the steps may vary slightly based on your computer’s operating
system.

1. Open a command or terminal window to obtain a system

command prompt. If you are running Windows, click

Start

→

Run

. At the Run dialog box, type

command

in the

Open

field

and click

OK

.

2. If you are using a Windows computer, type

ipconfig /all

at the command prompt. If you are using Linux, type

ifconfig -a

3. Press

E

NTER

.

4. Locate the DNS addresses in the command output. If your

enterprise uses WINS, locate the WINS server addresses.

5. Close the command window.

If the DNS (or WINS) addresses are correct, wait a few minutes,
then try to access the network resource again. If you are still
unable to access the resource, proceed to

Checking for viruses

If the DNS (or WINS) addresses are not correct and the computer
connected to the remote terminal is running Windows, see the
procedures in Appendix B for instructions on configuring DNS
(or WINS). If the computer is not running Windows, see the
documentation for the DNS used by the operating system.

Checking for viruses

If, after following all of the procedures described above, you still
cannot use enterprise resources, check the computer for viruses.
A virus can prevent a computer from operating normally. If you
find a virus, either delete or disable it and try the above tests
again.

Finally, because virus-checking and firewall programs are
updated frequently, check to make sure that the computer is using
