7. Why is there a requirement that the
satellite dish be professionally
installed?
Because the two-way system uses a transmitter, not
just a receiver. Professional installation ensures
that the system complies with FCC requirements
and is installed in a location or manner that is not
readily accessible to children and that the satellite
dish is fine-pointed for transmission and does not
interfere with other satellite users.
8. If the system transmits and receives via
satellite, why do I need a telephone
modem?
You need a telephone modem only to commission
your satellite modem for the first time, when the
telephone modem is required to run WebSetup.
After your system is commissioned, a dial-up
connection is not needed for your system to
operate. However, a telephone modem may be used
to establish a dial-up connection to the Internet as a
backup. A dial-up ISP account for this purpose is
available.
9. What are the causes of interference in
the operation of my system?
The DIRECWAY system operates in the Ku band.
Other devices transmitting in this band, such as
radar detectors, can interfere with the system.
