Safety Precautions
Thunderstorms
Do not work with electrical current in elevated or exposed locations during a
thunderstorm.
Extreme weather conditions
The RTN 310 is usually installed outdoors. If weather conditions are
extreme during an installation, personnel should follow local guidelines and
regulations to safeguard personal health and safety.
Microwave
High-power radio frequency signals are harmful. Avoid exposure to
transmissions from the antenna of microwave equipment that has this
radiation warning symbol ( ). When you are installing or performing
maintenance on an antenna located on a tower that has multiple antennas,
avoid exposure to radiation from other antennas.
High places
The RTN 310 is usually installed in an elevated location, such as on a tower
or on the roof of a building. Adhere the following guidelines for installations in
elevated locations:
• Installation personnel must have the proper training and qualifications, and
meet health requirements.
• Installation personnel must wear helmets and safety belts and work in
pairs or teams.
• Do not work in high places during thunderstorms, blizzards, gales, or other
extreme weather conditions. When working in an elevated location,
installation personnel must wear clothes and gloves appropriate to
weather conditions, and anti-slip footwear.
• Hoisting tools must be tested before use.
• All installation personnel and visitors onsite must wear helmets.
High temperature
If the ambient temperature reaches 55
°
C, the surface temperature of the
RTN 310 may exceed 70
°
C. Wear protective gloves if you must handle the
RTN 310. A high-temperature warning label ( ) is attached to the RTN
310.
Lasers
Do not look into an optical port without eye protection.
Corrosion
Anti-corrosion measures are required if the RTN 310 is installed in an area prone
to corrosion. Contact your local Huawei office for details. A location is corrosion-
prone if it is:
• Within 3.7 km of the ocean or a salt water lake
• Within 3 km of a heavy pollution source such as a smelting factory or coal
mine
• Within 2 km of a medium pollution source such as a chemical, rubber, or
electroplating plant
• Within 1 km of a light pollution source such as a food/leather processing plant
or heating boilers
Moving and hoisting heavy objects
To move or hoist heavy objects, use appropriate equipment and adhere to the
following guidelines:
• All personnel must wear helmets and protective clothes, gloves, and shoes.
• Move heavy objects along a flat, clear path.
• Do not lift heavy objects by hand. Use appropriate equipment instead.
• Before hoisting a heavy object, clear the area to avoid hurting anyone
nearby.
• Use hoisting tools properly. To avoid damaging pulleys or slings, do not
exceed the load allowance.
Port protection
• Before installing the RTN 310, remove
the protective cover and film on the
antenna port. Otherwise, signal
transmission will be affected.
• Protect unused ports with PG covers
and caps.
• Retain removed caps for future use.
• If the RSSI port is not used, protect it
with a cap.
• Close the maintenance compartment
when ports in it are not used.
Unpacking
• Power on the equipment within 24 hours of unpacking.
• During maintenance, the power-off time of the
equipment must not be longer than 24 hours.
