BACKREST
S
ummary:
This service instruction outlines the procedure to replace the backrest.
Tools Required:
• tie down strap
• #2 square drive screwdriver
• 5mm hex key
• 11mm spanner
• 13mm spanner
• 14mm spanner
• small flat blade screwdriver
• mallet
Parts Required:
• 1x backrest assembly stretcher
Location:
The backrest is the deck panel located at the head end of the stretcher.
CAUTION:
When reattaching the earth cable, care should be
taken to ensure correct orientation.
Procedure:
1. Raise the deck to the maximum height position, ensure the
deck is flat and apply castor brakes.
2. Unplug the stretcher from the mains supply.
3. Manually lift the back rest to its highest position and use a tie
down strap (A) to secure. See Figure 10.
4. Using a #2 square drive screwdriver, disconnect the earth
cable attached to the underside of the backrest.
5. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, remove the gas strut
attached to the backrest mount arm by prying the retaining
clip away from the ball end (C). See Detail B.
6. Using a 5mm hex key and a 13mm spanner, remove the
shoulder bolt that attaches the actuator to the back rest
mount arm (D). Allow the actuator to hang free.
7. Using a 5mm hex key, remove the two M8x12 button head
cap screws (E) from the backrest hinges.
8. Remove the tie down strap, and allow the backrest to lay flat
on the deck.
9. Using a mallet, carefully tap the backrest away from the
hinges to remove. This may require reasonable force.
10. Using a 14mm spanner and a 13mm spanner, remove the
ball end bolt and nut from the existing backrest mount arm at
(C) and transfer onto the new backrest.
11. Reverse the procedure to install the new backrest (see
caution above).
12. Conduct a PAT test on the stretcher.
13. Plug the power cord into the mains supply. Verify all stretcher
functions are working before returning to service.
