Depth of Field
Computer Term
The depth of field (DOF) is the portion of the
screen that appears sharp, while all other objects
appear out of focus. In RealFlight, depth of field
can add more depth perception to your computer
monitor, which is flat.
Dihedral
R/C Term
The V-shaped bend in a wing. Increasing the
dihedral usually enhances the aerodynamic stability
of an airplane, and helps the rudder to control both
the roll and yaw axis. This is why some trainers and
sailplanes require only three channels of radio
control (i.e., they have no ailerons).
Direct Control Interface
RealFlight Term
This is a method for using your own radio to
completely control the aircraft. This usually means
you have a separate radio program on your radio for
each aircraft that you want to fly in RealFlight 7
with this method. All mixing and radio functions
are performed on your radio and RealFlight simply
passes the values directly to the aircraft servos. This
is in contrast to the Joystick Emulation Interface.
Direct3D Technology
Computer Term
A Microsoft DirectX technology used to render the
3D image when you have a graphics accelerator
card. It works best on faster computers.
DirectX
Computer Term
A technology created by Microsoft that controls
graphics and sound operations.
Dithering
Computer Term
A method of removing and/or simulating colors
that may not be available to the graphics processing
unit.
Down Thrust
R/C Term
This is the downward angle of the engine in
relationship to the centerline of the airplane. Down
Thrust helps overcome the normal climbing
tendency of flat bottom wings.
