2-26 Operating Your Computer
Here's how GPS works in five logical steps:
z The basis of GPS is "triangulation" from satellites.
z To "triangulate," a GPS receiver measures distance using the travel
time of radio signals.
z
To measure travel time, GPS needs very accurate timing that it
achieves with some tricks.
z
Along with distance, you need to know exactly where the satellites
are in space. High orbits and careful monitoring are the secret.
z
Finally you must correct for any delays the signal experiences as it
travels through the atmosphere.
Five broad categories of GPS application:
z Location – determining a basic position
z Navigation – getting from one location to another
z Tracking – monitoring the movement of people and things
z Mapping – creating maps of the world
z Timing – bringing precise timing to the world

GPS Setup
To install the GPS driver, perform the following:
1. Insert the drive to CD.
2. Click on “USB-to COM” and follow the screen instruction to continue.
