A formatting as FAT32 is easily, but OS X named FAT32 as “MS-DOS (FAT)”.
Formatting FAT16 with older versions of OS X require a terminal window step not everyone is
comfortable with. Open a terminal window from the Applications → Utilities folder on your Mac and
enter the command “df”. Insert the microSD card now (or remove it if it was already plugged in as in
the screenshot below) and enter the same command again. There should be one additional line in the
output (or one line less in this case). Here we can determine that the microSD card is addressed as
/dev/disk1s1.
