The FPM is

 

not shown in basic mode. In unusual attitude mode, it 

disappears to allow the pilot to concentrate on the large aircraft symbol 
reference marks for unusual attitude recovery.  

FPM at low speed (airspeed <= 45 KIAS) behavior further depends upon 
whether or not the aircraft is in flight or on the ground and whether or not a 
WOW/WOG discrete input is enabled.  

In reversionary mode 1 (GPS failure), the FPM changes to a light gray color 
after one minute to indicate degraded performance (Figure 3-43).
