YNCHRONOUS START
-
UP PROCEDURE
If all units need to be switched on together, it is possible to achieve synchronous mode by using the configuration software
supplied.
Also in this case, all UPSs starting up for the first time will undergo an auto calibration procedure for approximately one minute
during which phase the load is not powered. Refer to the configuration software manual for synchronous start-up.
M
AINTENANCE BYPASS
CENTRALIZED BYPASS
For easier maintenance of the parallel system, installation of the centralized bypass is strongly recommended (see the paragraph
“Connecting the Centralized Remote Maintenance Bypass”).
Activate the centralized manual bypass and then switch the UPS’s off completely by opening all the disconnecting switches.
SWMB DISCONNECTING SWITCHES
If the Centralized Bypass is not available, it is possible to close the SWMB disconnecting switches of all the UPS’s in rapid
sequence (i.e. in a few seconds), starting from the units that are still in operation, and then switch the UPS’s off completely by
opening all the disconnecting switches.
As using the SWMB disconnecting switches is an extremely delicate operation, it is important to bear the following instructions
and recommendations in mind.
WARNING: the bypass line, whether the automatic one or the maintenance bypass of each UPS, is sized for
the nominal power of each unit.
In parallel systems, closing the “SWMB” switch on a single UPS and subsequently opening those on the other units, results in the
totality of the load current being transferred to a single Bypass line.
Note also that incorrect manipulations of the “SWMB” disconnecting switches may result in one or more UPS units breaking down.
To avoid these situations, installation of the “disconnecting block” (part of the kit supplied) is advisable on each single machine in
the parallel. The pictures that follow illustrate some application examples.
Assembly examples
Disconnecting block
In the case of UPS systems with rotary switches, to lock the closure of the SWMB, use a normal padlock (not supplied in the kit)
by inserting it into the hole of the block.
REDUNDANT PARALLEL SYSTEM
In a redundant parallel system, it is technically possible to simply switch off the units on which maintenance has to be performed
(by opening all the disconnectors), without using the maintenance bypass, but solely and exclusively if the remaining UPS’s are
able to support the entire load.
