INITIAL START-UP
CAUTION: when operating SWMB follow these instructions:
SWMB must not be closed on a switched off UPS that is in parallel with other units operating normally. This
action might damage the UPSs and/or create dangerous voltage at the output. SWMB may be closed with a
switched on UPS following the instructions indicated in the section titled “OPERATION”
I
NVERTER OPERATION AND CONNECTIONS CHECKS
Prior to initial start-up of the whole system it is necessary to carry out tests (
without the load
) to check that the connection
between UPSs is correct. It is imperative to follow the instructions below precisely:
1. Check that switches and isolators SWBATT, SWMB, SWIN, SWBYP
1
, SWOUT and the Main Switch 1/0 (if present)
on all the UPSs are open.
2. Close switch SWMB of only one UPS (remove the switch block).
3. Ensure that no protection device up- or downstream of the UPS has been triggered. If it has, check that the connections
are correct.
4. Check that the voltage between input and output terminals of all UPS units (L1_IN with L1_OUT, L2_IN with L2_OUT
and so on) is <5Vac. If this is not so, check connections are correct.
5. Open SWMB on all UPSs and close SWBATT, SWIN, SWBYP
1
and the Main Switch 1/0.
6. Wait for the pre-charge phase to finish, then check that all UPSs are in “STATUS: STAND-BY” with the only active
fault signal “OUTPUT SWITCH OPEN” code [A25].
7. Check that all UPSs connected to the system have the same DSP firmware version (rev.
02.13
or higher) and the
same Microcontroller firmware version (rev.
02.19
or higher).
To check the installed firmware versions select “8.CONFIGURATION” from the main menu, then “8.NOMINAL DATA”
from the submenu and check fields “(1)mC VERSION” and “(2)DSP VERSION”. If the firmware versions are different
it is necessary to upgrade all UPSs individually.
8. Check that parallel mode is activated on all units (see note below).
Note: The UPS is automatically set for parallel operation only if the parallel card is connected prior to switching on the
UPS. Parallel mode is shown numerically in the measurements readout pages on the display from 0 to 7 and is also
indicated as “M” (Master) or “S” (Slave).
9. Set up system configuration (only if default values need to be modified) through the menu “8.CONFIGURATION” on
any UPS control panel or through configuration software (see section “System Configuration”).
10. Start up all UPSs by inserting the command “1.SYSTEM ON“ from the main menu on all UPS control panels.
11. Wait for the end of the “STATUS: STARTING“ phase and the passage to the following “STATUS: LOAD ON INVERT”
phase (when first starting up, wait for about 1 minute until unit calibrates itself).
12. Close switch SWMB of one UPS to check that the whole system can switch to the bypass (“STATUS: LOAD ON
BYPASS”).
13. Open switch SWMB again. Wait a few seconds to check that all UPSs have returned to operating from inverter
(“STATUS: LOAD ON INVERT.”).
14. Repeat steps 12. and 13. for all the other UPSs in the system.
15. If the check is positive, close switches SWOUT of all UPSs and put the circuit breaker lock on all SWMB switches in
order to lock them in open position..
16. After the start-up phase, check that all UPSs are in “STATUS: LOAD ON INVERT.”.
17. After waiting approximately one minute from start-up of the last UPS, check there is no malfunction with the load
disconnected.
18. When load is connected, wait for approximately one minute and then check that power distribution between the various
units is within ±3%.
