Working with ONE SONAbeam terminal at a time, and referring to
Figure 30
, proceed
to align your link as follows:

Use the alignment scope to visualize the size of the search grid you are trying to
scan with the adjustment screws. The grid is about 12m
X
12m as a distance of
1000m, which corresponds roughly to plus/minus four full turns on the fine-
tuning adjustment screws. The grid size scales proportionally with distance.
7. Using only the azimuth tuning screw, slowly pan the optical head all the way to
the right and then all the way to the left while noting any significant increase in
the receive signal strength

Using only the elevation tuning screw, increase the terminal’s elevation by 1
complete turn.

Repeat Step 7 & Step 8 in sequence until a signal is reported -
AT THE
OPPOSING TERMINAL
– or until the elevation has been increased to its
maximum.
10. If a signal is not yet found, re-centre the terminal’s alignment to its original
starting position and repeat this same sequence (Steps 7 – 9) but this time
DECREASING the terminal’s elevation by 1complete turn.
11. When a signal is reported
AT THE OPPOSING TERMINAL
, slowly pan left &
right and then up & down seeking to maximize the reported Rx Power with the
other installer calling out the observed Rx Power in real time.
