About Your
SONAbeam Terminal
The SONAbeam E-Series terminal is an extremely reliable, very high speed, full-duplex,
wireless component for your communications network employing multiple, infrared, eye-
safe laser transmitters, a large-aperture optical receiver and an embedded microprocessor.
SONAbeam terminals are designed to operate equally well either indoors or outdoors
where a clear and unobstructed “line-of-sight” exists between two connecting points in a
network, with link distances from as close as 50 meters (100 feet) to as far away as
several kilometers in clear-air conditions, depending on the model deployed.
Designed to accept a variety of user-
specified interface and power supply
modules, your SONAbeam E Series
terminals
can be used to
accommodate a variety of data and
video transport needs. While actual
usable data rates are option
dependent, the E-Series terminal can
be used to transport 1.5 – 160 Mbps
and
supports a range of
communication standards including:
T1/E1, E3/DS3, 10/100 Ethernet,
OC-1/STM-0 and OC-3/STM-1 as
well as SMPTE and HDTV video
transmission standards.

SONAbeam Installation
With Integrated Network Management (INM), your SONAbeam terminals can be
connected to your business LAN to allow you to monitor and manage your terminals
from your office computer. Add the optional embedded SNMP agent to your SONAbeam
terminals and you can manage your entire network of SONAbeam FSO links from your
(SNMP) Network management System.
Each SONAbeam E-Series terminal employs multiple high power, high bandwidth, eye-
safe 1550nm lasers integrated with a patented optical receiver system to achieve superior
