WARNING!
Avoid saturating your FSO receivers when aligning your terminals! If your E
Series terminal reports an STC Rx Power approaching 1000
µ
W (or 0dBm) or a
voltmeter reading approaching 10V, STOP!
Then, using STC (or CLI), reduce the opposing terminal’s laser power level so
that your RX Power reports around 1/2 or 1/3 of that value before continuing
with the fine tuning of your terminal alignment.
WARNING!
If your SONAbeam is installed on a freestanding ballast mast, your weigh in
close proximity to the mast may affect the alignment!
Check for signal variance when all personnel are positioned a distance from the
mast…
If a significant variance is noted (more than 5%), you will need to under- or
over-compensate the alignment to allow for the extra ‘ballast’ of standing in
close proximity to your terminal. In such cases, trial and error are your only
recourse…
NOTE…
The signal must be maximized on both terminals by iterative adjustments on both
terminals.
It is important the installers on both sides of the link continually communicate
their observed receive signal strength readings to each other so that this
information can be taken into account as adjustments are being made.
When making that final adjustment, slightly overshoot to allow for the countering
action of its associated locking screw…
The receive signal strength on each terminal should be roughly the same when
the terminals are properly aligned.
