In case of maintenance-free batteries, please follow the

instructions of the battery manufacturer to the letter.

Only for open batteries:

Only Remove the sealing plugs

from the battery cells. Replenish distilled water up to the

minimum fill level. Leave the cells of the battery open until

the end of the charging process.

Clean the battery poles to remove dust and corrosion residue.

6.2 CONNECTING THE BATTERY CHARGER

Make sure that the charger is not connected

to the mains socket and that the mains switch

(position 8 in the overview) is set to "OFF".

Always connect the red positive cable (+)

(Position 9 in the overview) of the charger to

the positive pole of the battery first. Subse-

quently, connect the black minus cable (-)

(Position 10 in the overview) to the negative

pole of the battery.

CAUTION

Figure 2: Mains switch

We recommend not charging the battery

in the installed state. When charging, acid

splashes are unavoidable. The acid will attack

paint and other components of the vehicle.

If the battery is connected to the vehicle,

the vehicle electronics may be damaged.

Observe the instructions from the vehicle man-

ufacturer.

If you are charging the battery when it is

installed, disconnect it from the vehicle's

electrical system. To do this, read the

operating instructions of your vehicle or ask

your specialist workshop.

Always connect the red positive cable (+) (Position 9 in the

overview) of the charger to the positive pole of the battery

first. Then connect the black negative cable (-) to the car body

(exposed part), far away from the battery, the carburettor

and fuel lines. Always maintain this sequence.
Now plug the mains plug (position 1 in the overview) into

the socket.

First use the selector switch (position 5 in the overview) to set

the voltage suitable for your battery, 12/24 V

6.2.3 SETTING THE BATTERY CHARGER

Figure 3: Battery voltage selector switch

Use the selector switch (position 7 in the overview) to set

whether the battery should be charged slowly or quickly.

MIN (slow) – BOOST (fast)

Fig. 4: Selector switch MIN-BOOST

Refer to the operating instructions of your battery to

determine the charging current with which it can be charged.

For small batteries, up to 20 Ah, charging should be done

with "MIN". The adjustable charging currents are listed in

chapter 3. Specifications.

The charging current drops during the course of charging.

When the charging current approaches zero, the battery is

fully charged. In order to prevent overloading damages to

the battery, the charging current of the battery must be

constantly monitored.

The charging duration of the battery to be charged depends

on a number of factors, for example, the capacity of the

battery, the ambient temperature, the charging state, the

performance of the charger, etc. The exact charging state

of the battery can only be determined with a battery acid

tester (battery acid density meter) which enables you to

measure the specific density of the electrolyte fluid. The

following values apply (kg/l at 20 °C):

Do not leave the device unattended

during charging!

6.2.4 CHARGING PROCESS

Start the charging process by pressing the power switch

(position 8 in the overview) to "ON". The current charging

current can be read on the ammeter (position 2 in the

overview).
