2. PREPARING THE POOL
To ensure the correct operation of the equipment, add a
small quantity of salt and check the pH level is correct. The
normal salt and pH values should be as follows
PREPARING THE WATER IN THE POOL
pool water pH ---------------------------------- 7.2
proportion of SALT in kg/m3------------- 4.5
Bear in mind that the efficacy of the chlorination and quality
of the water for healthy bathing depends to a large extent
on the water pH, and so special attention must be paid to
regularly checking its conditions and adjusting them when
necessary. If you do not want to depend on the pH of your
pool, purchase an ESPA Pool EQUAL dispensing pump.
In principle, it is better for the pH to be low (acid), since this
achieves better disinfection, although excessively low val-
ues can cause health and corrosion problems. Therefore,
the correct margin is between 7.2 and 7.6.
To calculate the kilograms of salt to be added to the pool,
first calculate the pool capacity and then multiply the result
by 4.5.
EXAMPLE: If the pool is 8 m long, 4 m wide and has an
average depth of 1.5 m, make the following calculation:
Step 1. Pool capacity: 8 x 4 x 1.5 = 48 cubic metres
Since each cubic metres of water must contain 4.5
grams of salt, it is necessary to multiply the pool volume
by 4.5.
Step 2. Quantity of salt to be added: 48 x 4.5 = 216
kilograms of salt
We advise you to use salt that is specially prepared for sa-
line chlorination facilities, as it is designed to facilitate rapid
dissolution and obtain optimum results in your facility. You
can buy it in stores that specialise in products for pools.
CAUTION
When adding salt to the pool, always
disconnect the saline chlorinator (OFF position) and turn
the filter on for 3 or 4 hours for the salt to dissolve, to
ensure there is no danger of overload. Once it is dissolved,
connect the equipment.
It is advisable to add salt to the pool gradually, two or three
times, so as not to exceed the recommended quantity
(6 kg/m
3
); too much salt could overload the chlorinator,
causing it to automatically turn off, in which case it is
necessary to add water to reduce the salt concentration.
