VCOM UDP Mode
The VCOM UDP mode allows a control or monitoring application that normally requires a physical
serial port to communicate with the radio network using an Ethernet cable.
The following diagram shows a typical context in which an iPULSE radio configured in VCOM UDP
mode is used.
In this scenario, a virtual COM port driver is used to create a virtual COM port that looks like a local,
physical COM port to the application running on the computer. The virtual COM port is configured to
send data to the iPULSE radio at a specific IP address, and to a specific UDP port. Any data sent by
the application to the virtual COM port is automatically passed on to the PULSE radio network by the
iPULSE radio. Conversely, any data received from the PULSE radio network is forwarded to the
virtual COM port by the iPULSE radio.
The following table describes the settings associated with the VCOM UDP mode.
Field Name
Description
UDP listening port
Enter the UDP port on which the iPULSE radio will listen for incoming
data from the virtual COM port driver.
Data received from the PULSE radio network will be sent to the virtual
COM driver on the same port number specified by the
UDP listening
port
setting (i.e. the virtual COM port driver will be listening on the same
port that the iPULSE radio is listening on).
The default listening port is 2101.
