Contraindications,Precautions, and Warnings
Precautions
1. Do not use this device simultaneously with other electrotherapy
equipment.
2. To avoid causing possible interference with the operation of the
device, it should not be connected to anyone who is wearing or
holding an RF transmission device (two-way radio, cell phone, beeper,
etc.). See section “
Electromagnetic Emissions and Immunity”
the manual for guidance on the use of the device in an electromagnet-
ic environment.
3. While using an iontophoresis device, electrical discharges, though
rare, are possible which may ignite flammable materials or gases.
4. When cleaning the device, a damp, soft-cloth, lightly moistened with a
non-toxic soap is recommended. Do not immerse the device in water
or use cleaning sprays. Do not attempt to sterilize the device using
any type of sterilization equipment including autoclaves.
5. Damaged electrode cables: Avoid stretching cables to full length,
bending cables sharply, or wrapping cables tightly. Undue stress on
cables can damage connections. If electrode cables are damaged,
they should be replaced immediately.
Adverse Effects
Skin irritation and burns beneath the electrodes have been reported with
the use of iontophoresis.
WARNING
Any electrical stimulation has the potential to burn or irritate a patient’s
skin. The tendency towards burning is dependent upon several factors;
the most important being patient susceptibility and current density. The
practitioner has little control over patient susceptibility, other than to
observe first time patients carefully and discontinue use if necessary.
However, current density is totally controllable.
Do not exceed the
recommended maximum current for the electrode you are using .
