AUTOLEARN
The NX Tester has the ability to “learn” from a known good harness. This approach may be used
instead of developing a test program with the NX Editor. Caution should be exercised to ensure that the
harness is indeed good and that the harness and fixture have no intermittent connections.
The AUTOLEARN function will work properly for wire harnesses that contain resistors, splices, and/or
diodes. Wire harness containing other components such as capacitors, inductors, relays, etc. are not
suitable for the AUTOLEARN function. If resistors are present in the wire harness, the resistor values
must be greater than 1000 ohms and less than 100,000 ohms for the NX Tester to recognize them during
the Autolearn procedure. To learn a wire harness using the AUTOLEARN function, follow these steps:

Connect the test fixture to the NX Tester’s test point cards using appropriate interface cables.

Install the known-good wire harness in the test fixture

Insert a Supervisor Key into the key slot of the NX Tester

From the Main Menu, select SETUP

From the Setup Menu, select AUTOLEARN

At the “Select a Template?” prompt, select “NO”, and press the green button – the tester will
immediately scan the wire harness. When finished, the tester will return to Main Menu. The
autolearned program will appear as the selected program. It will automatically have the name
“Autolearn[n]” where n is a sequentially incremented number.

The Autolearn[n] program is now available for use.
It is recommended that programs used in production be copied to a computer drive that is regularly
backed up. Any program may be transferred to a computer by using the NX Memory Card. Copy the
program from the NX Tester to the memory card. Then copy the program from the memory card to the
computer using the memory card reader/writer.
An autolearned program may be renamed or modified by using the NX Editor software program.
Transfer the autolearned program to a computer that has the NX Editor software program installed.
Launch the NX Editor, open the autolearned program, make any desired modifications, and then use
“Save As” to save with the desired name. The renamed program may be transferred to the NX Tester
either via the NX Memory Card, or by downloading through the serial port.
The autolearned program uses the default Workflow.
