Safety Information
Keep Children Away:
Do not allow children to play with or
around the unit. It could result in injury. Be sure the unit is
inaccessible to children when not attended.
Keep Unit Grounded
: Always operate the unit with a
grounding plug and a grounded electrical outlet. A grounding
plug is an essential safety feature that helps reduce the risk
of shock or fire.
Protect Power Cord from Damage:
Never operate a unit
with a damaged power cord, as this may lead to electrical or
fire hazards. If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be
replaced by a cord of the same type and amperage rating.
Extension Cords:
Extension cords must be grounded and
able to deliver the appropriate voltage to the unit.
Handle With Care:
Do not drop or throw the unit. Rough
treatment can damage the components or wiring and create
a hazardous condition.
Run on Stable Surface:
Always operate the unit on a sta-
ble, level surface, like the floor or a strong counter, so it can-
not fall and cause injury.
Secure During Transport:
When transporting in a vehicle,
secure the unit to prevent sliding and possible injury to vehi-
cle occupants.
Keep Out of Water:
Never operate the unit in pooled or
standing water, as this may create a risk of injury from elec-
trical shock. Do not store or operate outdoors. If electrical
wiring or components become wet, dry thoroughly before
using the unit.
Keep Air Intakes Clear:
Do not clog or block air intakes, as
may occur if operated to close to draperies or similar materi-
als. This may cause the unit to overheat and result in a fire or
electrical hazard.
Use Clean Filters:
Clogged or dirty filters may limit the air-
flow through the DefendAir. Change the pre-filters after every
job. Change the primary filter after every remediation job.
The filter change indicator lights will alert you when the filters
need to be changed during the course of operation.
Dispose of used filters in accordance with applicable
regulations. Always wear an appropriate NIOSH-approved
respirator and, if needed, other appropriate personal protec-
tive equipment when changing or disposing of used filters.
Always use new filters and pre-filters to prevent cross-
contamination between jobs.
Keep Electrical Components Dry:
Never allow water inside
the DefendAir's electrical components. If these areas be-
come wet for any reason, dry thoroughly before using again.
Always Uplug When Servicing:
Always unplug the Defen-
dAir when performing maintenance or service procedures.
Dispose of used filters in accordance with applicable
regulations. Be sure to use appropriate personal protective
equipment, if needed, when changing or disposing of used
filters. Always use new filters and pre-filters to prevent cross-
contamination between jobs.
Keep Electrical Components Dry:

come wet for any reason, dry thoroughly before using again.
Allow Repair Only by Qualified Person:
Do not attempt to
disassemble or repair the unit if you are not qualified to do
so. You may handle some maintenance and troubleshooting,
but make sure that an authorized service technician handles
more complex problems. For information about authorized
repair, call Dri-Eaz at (360) 757-7776.
GUIDE TO AIR SCRUBBING
The DefendAir EX helps filter airborne particles from the air
that may be released during typical remediation and/or resto-
ration procedures. These particles may include mold spores,
dust, pollens, pet dander and miscellaneous debris.
High Efficiency Primary Filters
The filter media used in the DefendAir EX's primary filter
meets HEPA efficiency standards when tested under the
IES-RP-CC001.3 standard. Once installed, the primary filter
operates at efficiencies slightly below HEPA levels but is still
capable of capturing 99.5% of particles as small as 0.3 mi-
crons from air passing through the filter. This filter therefore
provides very high particle filtration efficiency. It excels at
capturing fine particles with extremely low airflow resistance.
This results in greater throughput of air and faster cleanup.
By itself, the primary filter will not remove volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) and other vapors and odors. Pre-filters
are available for the DefendAir that will filter nuisance levels
(i.e., levels below OSHA Permissible Exposure Limits) of
VOCs and other vapors.
Use for Water Damage
In a standard Category 1 water damage situation, place the
DefendAir EX in the middle of the affected area. A typical
restoration process dislodges millions of microscopic parti-
cles from wet carpet, pad and other materials and circulates
them through the air. The DefendAir filters the air in the af-
fected area to reduce particle levels during the restoration
process.
Use for Remediation
In most cases, the remediation process requires containment
of the affected area. Containment prevents the spread of
mold spores and other bioaerosols during the remediation
process. See "Containment During Remediation" for more
information.
