You can send and receive SMS messages even if you
have not contracted for the i-mode service.
See page 291 and page 292 for how to send and receive
SMS messages.
p You can send and receive SMS messages to and from subscribers of
overseas carriers other than DoCoMo. For the countries and
overseas carriers available for the service, refer to the DoCoMo
Global Service web page.

Address for SMS messages
Your address to receive SMS messages is the contracted mobile phone
number.
■ Number of characters that can be sent/received
The number of characters that can be sent/received by SMS are as below.

When SMS messages cannot be received
The SMS Center delivers SMS messages to your FOMA phone as soon as
they are received. However, if your FOMA phone is off or out of the service
area, the SMS messages will be held at the Center.

p The SMS Center holds SMS messages for a maximum period of 72
hours. You can set the holding period with “SMS validity period”.

p When the holding period expires, SMS messages are deleted
automatically.

You can receive SMS messages held at the SMS Center using “Check
new SMS” on page 293.
p Once your FOMA phone receives SMS messages, they will be deleted
at the SMS Center. Your FOMA phone will store the SMS messages.
