Diver Modem
This is a compact and low weight unit (Figure 6),
3.2 lbs. dry and 1.6 lbs.
submerged. It has a
rechargeable battery (similar to a cellphone) and has 12+ hours of
battery life, depending on the transmission power setting and the
number of packets transmitted.
There are various power settings – 0.25, 0.5, 1, and 2 W – and
various range-to-diver distances that can be achieved (see notes on
range above), depending on the situation:

In open water – up to .62 miles (1000 m in ideal conditions)
•
In cluttered water such as in a marina – up to 0.5 miles (800 m)
