Part Removal and Replacement Procedures
Replacing a Device Into the Hot-Swap Drive Bay
Hot-swapping allows to remove or install an SBB (Storage Building Block) while the server remains online
and active, eliminating interference with the server's operation. For SBBs, the hot-swap method can be
used to replace a device providing that the device is not active (green activity LED is off).
NOTE
Not all SCSI host adapters support the hot-swap method. Refer to the SCSI host
adapter documentation to determine if the hot-swap method is supported. Also, it
might be necessary to reconfigure the server to recognize the devices that is installed.
Use the following procedure to replace an SBB:
1) Unlock and open door.
2) Remove filler panel or SBB by pressing the two tabs together to pull filler panel or SBB out.
3) Insert SBB into the guide slots and push it in until it is fully seated and the mounting tabs engage the
shelf.
4) Close and lock door.
