Intro CNG installation
GENERAL
The machine is suitable to work with CNG gas. The gas tanks are protected and
mounted on a support. The gas is non toxic and lighter than air BUT does not
contain free oxygen. The combustion of 1 m
3
of natural gas requires about 10 m
3
of air.
Please watch out for possible risk of suffocation!
Additionally, the ignition temperature is higher than gasoline and diesel. The
tank is equipped by means of a safety valve which will open when needed
and release the abnormally high-pressure gas. This valve ensures that the
tank cannot explode. CNG as a fuel is more environmentally friendly than
conventional fuels. The lower limit of natural gas is 5%, the upper limit is 15%.
L-GAS AND H-GAS
There are two qualities of CNG gasses, just as there are two qualities of natural
gas, namely high-calorific gas (called H-gas - mostly used in Europe) and low-
calorific gas (called L-gas). The CNG- machines can operate on both H-gas and
L-gas. The natural gas consists primarily of methane (CH4), typically 85 % to
97 %. Other elements, present in varying amounts, such as nitrogen, carbon
dioxide, water vapor and hydrogen sulfide, affect the quality and calorific value
of the gas. There is a substantial difference in the quality of the two types of gas:
the calorific value of the gas is clearly lower (lower energy value - less methane)
for L-gas than for H-gas (higher energy value -more methane).
We, DiBO BV, set the burner of the machine at the factory to the
fixed setting: +- 8.5 mBar. If there‘s another setting/adjustment
required to ensure optimal operation according to the type of gas
used, than this must be done by a certified, qualified installer.
Note: The pressure of natural gas increases as the temperature rises!
