Instructions
CAUTION: Prior to using DermLite
cam, read these instructions and
keep them in a safe place for future
reference.
CAUTION: United States Federal Law
restricts this device to sale by or on
the order of a physician.
CAUTION: The DermLite cam is
designed for external examination
only.
DermLite cam is a digital camera
designed to capture close-up images
of the skin under cross-polarized
and non-polarized lighting. In cross-
polarized mode, glare-free images
are obtained by canceling the
reflected light from the skin without
immersion fluids, while nonpolarized
lighting may be used for traditional
immersion fluid dermoscopy. In
addition to dermoscopic imaging,
a special extension arm allows for
capturing non-polarized clinical
(macro) images at the ideal distance.
The camera’s faceplate spacer may be
removed for cleaning.
Directions for Use
CAUTION: Do not look directly into the
bright LED light. Patients must close
their eyes during facial examinations.
IMPORTANT: Before initial use, please
charge your DLcam for a minimum of
2 hours.
Charging
Prior to using the DLcam, plug the
included charger into an AC outlet,
then insert the cylindrical connector
(A) into the power port (B) located on
the bottom of the DLcam body. The
charger’s LED will turn red. Once the
device is fully charged, the LED turns
green. When operating the camera, a
battery charge indicator appears on
the screen.
After 500-1,000 charges, the battery’s
capacity will diminish and the battery
may need to be replaced by an
authorized 3Gen service provider.
Contact 3Gen to arrange for service.
Using your DLCam
After pressing the power button
(C), DLcam is ready to take images
using cross-polarized light. Place
the device directly onto the skin,
rotate the focus ring arm to the
dermoscopy position (F1), and press
the shutter button (D) to take a photo
and display it on screen. Images are
sequentially numbered. To capture a
non-polarized photograph, push the
red polarization button (X) to change
modes, then press the shutter button.
To capture clinical images, slide the
macro extension arm (E) forward until
it locks, rotate the focus ring arm to
the macro position (F2), place the
macro extension arm directly onto the
skin and press the shutter button.
Faceplate Spacer
To remove the spacer, rotate it
counter-clockwise and pull it off.
SD card (G)
All images are stored on the SD card.
To remove it from the SD card slot
(H), simply push on the card. When
inserting, make sure the 45° corner is
facing up and forward.
CAUTION: If your DermLite cam is
used for oil immersion imaging, place
the oil only on the skin and then place
the faceplate spacer on top of the oil.
Do not allow oil to contact the metal
DLcam body, as this may damage the
unit.
CAUTION: Your DLcam uses a unique
lithium-polymer battery, which can
only be purchased from 3Gen or
from an authorized 3Gen dealer. Do
not under ANY circumstances use
another battery other than the one
designed for this unit. Doing so could
result in damage to the unit.
