Fuel System
There are many ways to affix the fuel system. Outlined in
this manual is a method that also creates a mounting plat-
form for the many air systems on the plane. This ap-
proach is detailed in the photos in Appendix B.
Begin by de-burring the brass tube
Bend the vent tube, being careful not to kink it. If it
doesn't reach the top of the tank, extend it with a short
length of fuel tubing. Make sure it is angled forward to
reduce the chance of fouling with the main pickup line
when rolling the aircraft. A short length of brass tube
installed in the pickup line will help as well.
Install pickup tube and clunk. Test the length to make
sure it reaches the bottom of the tank. Safety wire.
The clunk assembly. Safety wire all connections before installing.
Install the pickup assembly in the tank. Carefully en-
large the hole in the tank for the stopper if necessary.
Once the tank is assembled, check for air leaks in a
tub of water.
If you wish, reinforce the glue joints in the formers that
support the tanks with additional V-Poxy.
Cut a piece of hard foam to shape to spread the
weight of the tank when full across the entire fuselage
structure. Thin foam may also be used between the
tank and the intakes for added protection.
Use hard foam to support the tank and spread the weight. Cut to fit
shape of fuselage and slot for mid former.
Install tank in fuse. Bolt lower former in place if this is
the method you decided to use to retain the tank.
Insert UAT in tank slot.
Upper tank can be held in place with velcro, wire, or
as shown here, carbon fiber cord. The cord loops
around the tank and attaches to the air board.
