Analog part support
9.4.1 Introduction
A part support system can also be driven by connecting a DBT01 card to a DM01. If that is the
case, axis type 'servo' must be selected for the part support in the menu of the auxiliary axis.
In the beginning of the bend the metal plate accelerates very fast while the angle variation is not
of the same speed order. High accuracy part support control requires closed loop regulated speed
and angle control of one or more support arms. Therefore the DBT01 is equipped with an angle
control amplifier and a speed regulator.
With the P-m potentiometer (or angle deflection potentiometer) the angle of the part support arm
is measured (diagram Part support control) . The signal of this potentiometer is compared with
the 0 - 10V angle output signal of the DM01 module. The difference of these signals controls the
output voltage to for example an hydraulic valve amplifier (AL and AR in diagram Part support
control. This diagram represents a dual part support system). Subsequently the hydraulic valve is
controlled to move the part support arm. (Instead of a hydraulic valve the part support arm can
also be controlled by a motor drive.)
At the same time the speed of the arm is measured (angle variation per unit of time). The output
voltage variation of the controller and the speed variation signal of the angle potentiometer (P-
m) are compared (speed difference). The difference of these signals is used to accelerate the
speed of the control arm.
In case the acceleration required to move the arm is too high for the support arm to follow the
sheet metal plate then a PWM-signal is generated at the Y-brake signal of the module to slow
down the speed of the Y-axis of the press brake.
When the Y-axis moves slower then also the angle variation per unit of time will be slower.
In case of using two support arms the speed of both arms are compared and the slowest arm will
regulate the speed of the Y-axis (Dual part support application).

Installation and adjustment of the DBT01 control card
The DBT-01 control card is used for the part support function. First the DBT01 card is installed
then the part support arm should be adjusted. Both procedures are discussed.
Installation procedure

Connect the part support control card DBT01 according to the standard connection
diagram.

Put the part support brackets in a horizontal position

Make sure that the potentiometer - which reads the actual position of the part support - is
then not more than 25 degrees turned from the zero-position. This should correspond
with approximately 0,5 Volt on the runner of the potentiometer

Adjust the following potentiometers before you start the adjustment procedure. See also
