Checking rear wheel toe angle:

NOTE:

Rear wheel toe angle should be ZERO,

and is not adjustable. If there is toe-in or toe-out
in the rear suspension, it is due to worn or dam-
aged parts that should be identified and
replaced.

6a. A string or (straight-edge) that just touches

the outer edge of the tire side-wall, at the
height of the wheel’s hub should be paral-
lel to the outer frame channel.

6b. Take measurements between the string

and two spots on the side of the frame.
Measure at the front and rear of the side
frame. See Figure 5.4.

6c. The measurement between the string and

the two points should be equal.

Inspecting spring and damper units.

7a. Make a visual inspection for:

_Broken coils
_Leaking fluid from the damper
_Bent shaft
_Loose fasteners

7b. Minor adjustments can be made to the rear

spring rate and resultant ride height using
a purpose-built spanner to rotate the
stepped lower spring perch.

7c. Ride height, measured at the front bottom

corner of the frame should be 12” + 1/2”
(32.54 + 1.25cm).

NOTE:

If the ride height has fallen substantially

on one side or both sides, or if the damper is
worn, replace the spring and damper units as a
pair.

NOTE:

A bad damper will allow the suspension

to bounce continually in use, drastically acceler-
ating fatigue and failure of the spring.
